Bruno H’dry

1945 - 1991

Chronology

Born in 1945, Bruno H’dry trained at the École des Métiers d'Art in Paris. He then became a student of Jean Lerat, a respected master ceramist. As a thrower and modeler, Bruno developed a unique style using personal slips and glazes to create both functional and decorative pieces. Unlike many artists, Bruno did not work in series, preferring to devote his time and talent to each individual piece.
After discovering La Borne, he settled in Menetou-Salon in 1972 with his wife Danielle. He was involved in all stages of production: he refined his own clay, prepared the wood for his firings, and composed his own glazes using kaolin, feldspar, and metallic oxides. His creations, ranging from lamp bases to various stoneware objects, were sold at arts and crafts fairs, in Parisian galleries, and in galleries in the South of France.
In addition to his artistic production, Bruno contributed to projects for institutions such as the Henrichemont retirement home and the New Archives of Bourges. Unfortunately, his promising career and life were cut short by his death in 1991.
Danielle, also born in 1945, trained at the Decorative Arts. She met Bruno at the Charpentier Academy, where they were both preparing for the entrance exams to the School of Arts and Crafts and the School of Decorative Arts. She was only 18 at the time. Their personal and professional relationship led them to settle in Vignoux sous les Aix, in Cher, and then in Menetou-Salon in 1972.
Danielle distinguished herself in the production of jewelry ranges which she marketed through the Art Workshops. In addition to her career as a designer, she also taught ceramics, drawing, secretarial skills, and other disciplines. Her commitment to the community was demonstrated by her presidency of the association "Initiative of Peace."
The couple raised four children: two daughters and two sons, in their home in Menetou-Salon, a former coachman’s relay station. Their home was a place of creativity and balance, where they found joy in creation together, in harmony between technical research and physical effort.
Bruno, of Czech origin, with his tall stature, long brown hair, and calm voice, and Danielle, with her precise and delicate gestures, formed a complementary duo. Together, they created a perfect balance between professional and personal life, dedicating their existence to art and the beauty of creation.
