Design Miami/Basel 2017
13/06/2017 - 18/06/2017
For this edition of Design Miami/Basel 2017, the gallery Pascal Cuisinier showed an exceptional cutting-edge collection of French design of the 1950s.
Most of these pieces were produced in very small quantities as they were probably to modern at the time. They have now become emblematic of a generation of young designers that the international collectors are re-discovering since ten years.
These creations are difficult to find and so present in few numbers on the market. Some of them will thus be shown for the first time to the public. This is the case of the double chest of drawers 220 by Alain Richard or the incredible child desk by Pierre Guariche for which we know only two examplaries for now. Some others, already well-known, have become icones such as the desk made of glass by Antoine Philippon and Jacqueline Lecoq, the Catherine chair made of rattan by Joseph-André Motte or the double equilibrium floor lamp by Pierre Guariche. Several piecesdirectly come from the exhibition dedicated last summer to Pierre Paulin by the National ModernArt Museum, Centre Georges Pompidou.
This collection is presented such as a museum display around four scenes, each of them showcasing in mirror: a desk, two armchairs, a low table, a piece of furniture and three lights amongst the most exceptional of the young French design of the 1950 to 1960’s.
