Design Miami/Basel 2019
All lights by Pierre Guariche
11/06/2019 - 16/06/2019
For our seventh consecutive year at the show, Galerie Pascal Cuisinier is proud to announce the participation at Design Miami/Basel in June, as well as the publication of our forthcoming book devoted to Pierre Guariche lighting.
Pierre Guariche is currently considered to be one of France’s three most important lighting designers. And yet he was above all one of the best interior designers of the post-war boom years. His technical and aesthetic innovations and the pertinence of his research into direct, indirect and reflected lighting revolutionized domestic lighting. For each of his designs, Guariche’s starting point would be the type and the quality of the light that he was looking for in response to a specific function. Once identified, he would then invent the lighting unit. As a result, each Guariche piece is different. Of the fifty models he designed, none shines directly into the viewer’s eye.
The vast majority of Pierre Guariche’s lights were produced in limited series, which explains why they are so rare today and have become icons of the international market.
An exceptional collection requires an exceptional setting, which is why the gallery has created an interior inspired by Pierre Guariche’s work of the 1950s to 1970s. It features the brown and beige shades and contrasting materials of which the designer was so fond. To complete the effect, the gallery will be including several rare pieces, such as an exceptional suite by Alain Richard, a pair of very rare armchairs by Louis Sognot and Abraham & Rol’s Soleil.
