Design Elysées 2011
Two French avant-garde interiors from 1954 and 1958
19/10/2011 - 24/10/2011
In parallel the gallery presented two sets of furniture, seats and lights representative of French avant-garde design,
one from the start and the other from the end of the 1950s.
In less than five years two very different styles appeared in France:
one made of round lacquered black tubular bases, light wood, bright colours and brass lights and shades, the other of square sections, exotic dark wood and chrome or metallic painted lights with plexiglass reflectors.
This exhibition aims to recall the extent of the innovation nature
of French design in the 1950s and that, in spite of it being rare
it blithely stood comparison to international productions from the same period.
