2009_2019 : Ten years of exhibitions
19/10/2019 - 14/12/2019
Ten years already, Pascal Cuisinier dedicated his first exhibition to the designer Alain Richard.
There will follow a long series of monographic or thematic exhibitions on “young wolves” – to use the phrase of the famous journalist Solange Gorse – these first French designers who marked the style of the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Thus, after years of research (up to 14 years for the next exhibition on Robert Mathieu), Pascal Cuisinier was able to assemble a vast collection of furniture and lighting and to present them to the public in the form of unpublished exhibitions; Joseph-André Motte (2012; 2013), lighting by Pierre Guariche (2012), André Simard (2013), Jacques Biny (2015), Pierre Paulin (2016), Michel Mortier (2016), René-Jean Caillette (2016) , Abraham & Rol (2016) and ARP (2017). The gallery interspersed these monographs with more transversal exhibitions, the most important of which were undoubtedly: “100 French seats” (2014), “Public collections” (2018) or even “The heirs of UAM” (2018).
Focusing on the most representative and rare pieces of each creator, the gallery has brought to light a somewhat forgotten generation of French furniture, that of the glorious thirty, which has lastingly shaped the history of habitat and French design. Characterized by the radicality of its lines, the obsession with proportion, an innovative functional approach and the search for improvement in lighting devices. The design of this generation, a source of inspiration for its many successors, has since become essential on the French and international scene.
To celebrate its 10 years of exhibition, the Pascal Cuisinier gallery will give a nod to each of these past exhibitions, with some of the rarest and most iconic pieces, like the “Nénuphar” cup and the candlestick. “129” by Pierre Paulin, seen during the Pierre Paulin retrospective at the Pompidou center in 2016, the glass desk by Philippon-Lecoq, or even an A16 pendant lamp by Alain Richard, rare 180 cm version …
Finally to open on the continuation, Pascal Cuisinier will present for the first time some pieces of his unpublished collection of luminaries of Robert Mathieu (100 luminaries including 80 different models) which will give place to an exhibition event of the gallery, on the occasion of the centenary from the creator.
